More 20 years of fossil collecting...
My collection is composed of many and rare fossils from Portugal, discovered and prepared by me. Over more than 20 years, I have been gathering an extraordinary paleontological collection from the periods (Jurassic, Cretaceous, Miocene), particularly the Upper Jurassic and Miocene. With time and some knowledge, I became an expert on Dinosaur fossils from the Upper Jurassic period.

About fossils of Portugal
Catch and collecting fossils can be a very interesting hobby. In both cases, some technical knowledge is necessary so that we can enjoy the full pleasure that fossils can provide us...
I have been catching fossils for over 20 years, from various geological periods. Collecting fossils, in particular dinosaur fossils, made along the coast of Portugal and by the sea, with large slopes and high cliffs, is in most cases a great challenge and a high safety risk. Only crazy people venture into these dangerous adventures. And I'm one of those few crazy people who do this, with great pleasure...

Introduction to the Topic
Portugal is quite rich in fossils from various geological periods in various regions of the country, especially along the coastal strip. In this topic on the website, I will only refer to the Upper Jurassic fossiliferous outcrop of Portugal (Lourinhã Formation).
Some of the richest fossiliferous geological outcrops in Portugal are becoming less and less accessible, or even irretrievably lost to the study and catch of fossils. Urban expansion and intensive agriculture in some regions of the country, especially along the coast, have contributed to the disappearance of many of these rich fossiliferous outcrops. Perhaps one of the biggest problems is the disregard for the lack of preservation of these areas. In Portugal, the sensitivity and desire to preserve some of these magnificent places is almost non-existent, or contradictory. Catching and collecting fossils is increasingly seen as an unforgivable sacrilege that wastes the heritage, which some call "of all of us". I'm not sure what the phrase "of all of us" means (...). The only thing I know is that most museums (around the world) are full of private collections. Most donated, at no cost to those who criticize collectors so much. I would also like to add the fact that it is private collectors who have contributed most to new discoveries. And the fact that they are the ones who most criticize collectors, who are least concerned about the destruction of fossiliferous outcrops... when concrete or asphalt is poured over fossils, there is no problem, it is all done in the name of progress and development , but when a collector catch a fossil, it is a criminal who is wastes public heritage... Hypocrisy is a breath of fresh air for idiots to feel happy.
Adverse natural factors
It last years, there has been a rapid erosion of fossiliferous outcrops. Particularly in the cliffs along of our Atlantic coastline, probably consequence of the increase of the sea and adverse climatic extremes, among others. From these circumstances, it has resulted in a marked loss of the irreplaceable Paleontological Heritage of Portugal.
Conclusion: It is getting harder to find good specimens of fossil species in Portugal, particularly fossils of Dinosaurs, because of all these described circumstances.
Fossils are increasingly rare wonder to find...

Lourinhã Jurassic Formation
Although the Jurassic Lourinhã Formation » (in Portugal), is similar to the Morrison Formation » (in Norte America), or with the Tendaguru Formation » (in Tanzania), the geography of both formations is completely different, both in appearance and in dimensions of productive area. The Lourinhã Formation is relatively small in comparation to to there similar. Most of the fossils caught in this formation, come from a small coastal strip of difficult access. The areas most likely to encounter good dinosaur fossils, are found on the escarpment cliffs. This facts, makes the collect of fossils very difficult and dangerous. Finding good fossils of Dinosaurs from the Upper Jurassic in Portugal, is sometimes a great adventure...

General concepts of species classification
All fossils must by species (where possible), where they were caught and degree of rarity.
Uncommon » Rare » Very rare » Extremely rare
The degree of rarity is associated with the occurrence of species in general and perfection of the specimens submitted. Possibly some of the rare species in Portugal, may be common in any other part of the world...

About the trade and classificação of fossils
In my experience as a collector of over 20 years dedicated to collecting fossils, the most varied places of Portugal. No classifying fossils with exotic classifications, whose sole purpose is simply to sell "cat by hare" and get some additional value. Personally and in the best way possible in my fossils, I will only focus to add to the information of the fossil, the genus to which the specimen belongs. And, only when I have enough information can I add the name of the species, which corresponds to the fossil...
Here is the opinion of a great american collector, of Dinosaurs of the Jurassic in - The Fossil Forum » " Everyone will have a different definition of what an exotic tooth is depending on the level of their collection. I have been collecting for over twenty years and my experience is mixed and would raise the caution flag with online purchases. First like reg stated a number of dealers use exotic names as a marketing tool to sell teeth for profit. Unfortunately eBay is filled with this technique. Other dealers simply accept what is told to them when they purchased the item for resale and are happy to do so because of the upside. Dinosaur teeth can be very difficult to ID and I hate to say it but very few dealers can adequately do it. You have to get to know the dealer and find out where he obtained the tooth, who ID it and if you can return the item.
To answer the initial question my experience is that most real exotic teeth rarely make it to the public market. Most reputable dealers have a listing of their favorite clients and will contact them as soon as they obtain a specimen,"
My opinion...
The classification of fossil species, particularly some genus, is not an easy task to carry out accurately, even by serious experts. In collection, or in the business that involves the sale of fossils, it is full of "pseudo-experts" in fossils, who very wisely make comments on the internet as having great knowledge in the Paleontology area, when in reality they are nothing more than "Parrots". In most cases, bad parrots. Because they poorly repeat the information that they extract from trusted sources and that took a lot of work to construct to the real experts in the fossils area...

Introduction
"The fossils in my collection (fossils from Portugal) were all discovered and prepared by me. I am not a professional expert in fossil preparation, but I have good sufficient knowledge to also venture into the area of preparation and conservation. Some time ago, I acquired specialized equipment for preparing fossils. They are expensive “toys”, but this puts the work of preparing the fossils on another level of speed and perfection, removing any remaining matrix to clean the fossils...."
